Are these the best protein bars ever?

Are these the best protein bars ever?

Big news: I tried some new protein bars and actually enjoyed them…

Sometimes I think I must be a bad fitness blogger because I hate the taste of protein and I almost never drink protein shakes. The thought of drinking a protein shake with water straight after a workout makes me shudder. Sure, I add a few scoops into my porridge in the morning, but that’s usually as far as my relationship with protein goes. I guess I’m a bit of a protein snob because I stick to the same brands that I know are high in quality (and don’t taste like the bottom of a shoe).

One of my favourite brands is Multipower, who have 35 years of experience in creating protein products. What I love about their whey protein powder is that it’s high in protein, low in carbs and calories, plus it contains high levels of BCAAs. I’ve only just learned what BCAAs are and why they are important, mainly from reading discussions about them in the Grace Fit Group. BCAA stands for Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs) and refers to three amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, and valine. You do get these naturally in foods such as meat and eggs, but supplementing your intake can promote muscle protein synthesis and increase muscle growth over time. Taking BCAAs can also prevent fatigue in newbie athletes and reduce muscle soreness after training.

I’m currently using the Multipower Strawberry Splash 100% whey protein powder and it’s sooo nice! I add 2 heaped scoops to my porridge every morning and then sprinkle some chia seeds over for omega-3 and fibre. Things I’ve only just learned: 1) you mix in the powder once the porridge is cooked instead of putting it in the microwave, it mixes better and doesn’t go clumpy 2) The tub says 1 serving = 25g of protein but that means 3 x scoops of the powder. I’ve been using 1 scoop and thinking it was the full serving for about TWO YEARS; don’t make my mistake kids.

Macro friendly protein bars

Anyway, the point of this blog was to talk about protein bars so let’s move on. I was lucky enough to get sent some of the new bars from Multipower to review and as I said before I was quite sceptical because I usually avoid all protein flavoured things (unless its turned into a milky pudding bowl). However, I was pleasantly surprised!

multipower yoghurt bar

53% PROTEIN BAR

Berry yoghurt flavour bar

These bars are really sweet and taste a bit like white chocolate. They are quite a weird texture but once you get used to that you stop noticing it. They have a massive 27g protein in so they keep you really full and give you energy for a low amount of sugar and carbs. You can find them here.

Per bar:
27g Protein
200 kcal
5 g Fat
9 g Carbs
1,8 g Sugar

multipower peach bar40% PROTEIN FIT

14 g Protein
129 kcal
4,7 g Fat
9,4 g Carbs
0,8 g Sugar

I love these bars! I tried them in Peach and Apricot flavour and chocolate and blueberry flavour. They are so sweet and easy to eat. Plus, they keep you really full. If you have a sweet tooth like me I would definitely recommend trying these out.

There you have it; a leopard can indeed change its spots! Hope you enjoyed this post, it’s a bit different to my usual stuff I will try and do more reviews.
